Database of Southeast Asian Islamic Manuscripts (D'SAIN)

Database of Nusantara Islam Manuscripts is a database that provides various informations related to Nusantara Islam manuscripts. The database covers a wide range of Nusantara Islam manuscripts-based research—using philological approach or other approaches; conducting by foreign scholars or native scholars. As the center of Nusantara Islam manuscripts, the database not only records the title, author, copyist, language, and literacy texts, but also provides a number of manuscript collections and catalogues including lists, and various publications relating to manuscript which is used as the primary resource of research. 


In addition, the database provides authors and copyists’ biographical information and their activities. Therefore, Database of Nusantara Islam Manuscripts, as the center of information and research on manuscript that can be accessed online, is very important for the manuscripts-based researches and other researches.

صدر مؤخرًا عن الهيئة العامة لقصور الثقافة بالقاهرة، كتاب: المستودعات الرقمية على الإنترنت، للزميلة الدكتورة إيمان فوزي عمر.

The free exchange of scientific and medical information can play an important role in international development.

BioMed Central provides free, immediate online access to the full text of all research articles published within its portfolio of 276 peer-reviewed journals, and through its open access waiver fund, enables scientific authors in low-income countries to overcome the financial barriers to publishing in open access journals.

Open access provides a way for researchers from low-income countries to participate more fully in the international research community, and so BioMed Central has created a set of initiatives designed to increase the visibility and output of scientific research from these countries.

Afghanistan Open Access Digital Library

Open Access Digital Library: 
Afghanistan Digital Library Collections - University of Arizona

Afghanistan Digital Library Collection is a collaborative project of University of Arizona Libraries and the Afghanistan Center at Kabul University. The collection contains information related to history, social, economic, and cultural heritage of Afghanistan in Pashto and Dari. Content is continuously updated with about over 1800 title (132,000 pages) currently available..




The project has digitized Da Afghanistan Kalani, also known as Salnama or Afghanistan Year book. Da Afghanistan Kalani is an almanac and yearbook published by the government of Afghanistan from 1933-1990. These digitized volumes offer access to the political social and economic history of Afghanistan in Dari/Persian and Pashtu languages

Fostering open access in Asia

Research output in Asia is growing fast. According to National Science Foundation indicators published in February this year, the number of articles published by researchers in Asian countries increased from 89,000 in 1997 to 212,000 in 2011.

If that trend continues, Asia – with China very much in the vanguard – is likely to overtake both the US and European Union in terms of research output in the very near future. A Royal Society report from 2011 predicted that China would overtake the US sometime around now!
